I’m Martin Elliott,
And this is my story.

My name is Martin Elliott (Marty) now retired after a lifetime career in Education. I am married to Viv and we live in Papamoa, Tauranga.

25 years ago, as a Secondary Principal I was approached by a local Funeral Director to be the MC at a funeral service for the father of one of my pupils. As an experienced public speaker, and with a strong sense of Community, I readily agreed to his request. I found the experience humbling and uplifting, and so began my journey as a Celebrant.

Now 25 years later my diary shows I have worked with 10 different Funeral Companies and over 20 Funeral Directors in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. I have also officiated at a number and variety of wedding Ceremonies in many different locations.

While initially I focussed solely on Funerals, over time I diversified to meet the needs of the community and now offer a wide range of Ceremonies.

My services include:

  • Wedding Ceremonies
  • Traditional
  • Registry
  • Renewal of Vows
  • Civil Union Ceremonies
  • Funeral Ceremonies
  • Memorial Ceremonies
  • Other Ceremonies
  • Pet Ceremonies
  • Naming Ceremonies
  • Divorce Ceremonies
  • Rites of Passage Ceremonies
  • MC / Special Events

I have always considered it a privilege and honour to be asked to be a Celebrant at a family Ceremony. It’s a time when you get very close to a family and assist them in their time of need. This is especially so when a family member passes away.

As a Celebrant I always explain to the family that while I will advise and guide them, and make suggestions; at the end of the day the final decisions are theirs to make. This is their Ceremony not mine.

Ceremonies require people with a variety of personal and professional attributes. You do not want to entrust a special occasion to someone who creates mayhem and destroys the memory of the occasion for a lifetime.
